With the stock market going down so much over the last couple of years, many people have become gun-shy about buying stocks. This is understandable since most every stock had done nothing but go down for so long. However, there is signs of life and the market has moved back up somewhat.
Even though the market has made a small comeback, it does not guarantee that it will not start to head back down again. This is where you start to wonder whether you are missing out by not being in the market or whether this is just a false upward move before heading back down again. Professional investors have a slight advantage here because they are trained to understand market tendencies and to analyze the market.
When you buy more stock at lower prices than you already own some shares, it is called averaging down. For instance, if you own 100 shares of ABC corp. at $100 a share and then you buy 100 more shares at $50 after it has gone down, you will now own 200 shares at an average price of $75.00. You will have averaged down the price of your shares. This is what we will all be doing when we buy back into the market.
Although it may be tempting to buy more of what you have and to average down, it might not be the smartest choice. Most economists and stock market analysts agree that you should be diversified in your investments and that might mean buying other company stocks instead of the ones you already own. It also could be done by buying other types of financial investments such as treasury bills or bank CDs. A good investor never has too much in one asset as that would expose them to too much risk.
Even if you have been properly diversified, you have most likely lost money in this terrible environment. All investments types have suffered as well as jobs and anything else related to the economy. This will not last forever though, and at some point it will be the right time to get back in. Those that are able to recognize the correct reentry point will stand the best chance of cashing in and actually making money.

The popular advantage of options is that you can make a lot bigger profits than if you should invest a similar amount of money in normal shares. The reason for this is what is called leverage in trading circles. Let us say you’ve got only $100 to invest and the price of your favorite stock is $100. So you can only buy a single share. Not a big deal.
Let’s see how it works. If you have $10,000 to invest and the price of a particular share is $100, you can buy 100 of those shares. If the call option on that share sells for $2, you can buy 1 option and spend only $200. For this $200 you can control 100 shares of the stock also, similar to buying 100 shares of stock. Unfortunately, as we said, leverage is a double-sided sword. If the underlying goes up, you make be a very prosperous option trader, but if not, you could lose your shirt.

The traditional function of trading options used to be to hedge an existing investment. If you, for example, had shares in a certain company of which the share price recently went up quite a lot, you can hedge your position by buying put options on that stock. Should the price go down, you will lose money on the shares themselves, but make money on the put options. This is a basic way to protect your investment. The downside is that if the share price should rise, you will in turn make a profit on the shares themselves but lose money on the put options, which will cut into your profits. There are many other ways to hedge with options than this type of option trade.

In order to get out of credit card debt it takes action on your part. So whether or not you are being swallowed by the sink hole of credit card debt or you are just starting out to dig yourself into credit card debt – you have to take action before it’s too late in order to be come debt free.
The six tactics below can help end your credit debt…if you use them.
1. Stop using your credit cards – By using your credit cards you are paying additional interest on the credit card balance you owe on which you’ve already been charged interest. Unless you pay the new charges when you are billed you are accumulating additional interest on both present and past charges.
2. Figure out how much credit card debt is costing you. How you may ask! You can find out how much credit card debt is costing you by seeing how much interest rate you have to pay. This is done by reading the fine print on your latest credit card statement. If you do not understand then you call your credit card company and have them explain it to you. (By law they have to explain it to you.)
3. Lower that interest rate!!!! Lowering your interest rate is the most effective and easiest way to get your credit card debt problem under control. You can lower the interest rate you are paying by transferring high interest rate amount balances to lower or no interest credit cards.
4. Call your credit card companies and tell them to lower your interest rates. Since you already know the interest rates it is time for you to ask your banks and credit card companies to lower the interest rates. When you call them, ask to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor has the authority to give you a lower interest rate. (Don’t take no for an answer)
This is what you tell them: The rates are too high and you want it lowered. And also let them know that if they are not willing to lower your interest rate you are considering to close your account and transfer all your credit card balances to the company that is willing to give you the lowest interest rate.
5. Consolidate your credit card debts – transferring all credit card balances to one credit card – is an effective way of getting out of credit card debts. So when negotiating to get a lower interest rate you should let it be known that your ultimate goal is to get out of credit card debt at the lowest possible cost and not credit card shuffling.
6. Cut your savings in half. It would be foolish to be paying high interest rates while continuing to save the usual amount, if you are indeed saving. If you are already so deep in debt that no one company is willing to loan you the money to consolidate your credit card debts then you would have to resort to this tactics.
It works like this. Get all your credit card balances. Divide each balance by the minimum amount you are required to pay each month. This tells you how long it would take to pay off each balance. Start by paying off the one that takes the least amount of time (half your savings + minimum payment). Continue making minimum payments on the rest. When that least payment is finished you would pay the next least payment and so on. You would continue using this tactics until you are no longer in debt.

Options were developed as a way of curbing and managing chances when investing. So, do not pay attention to what you may have been told about options. Well, some of it’s true and some of it’s just ignorance. Let’s talk about some option basics.
Investors use options for two main reasons. The first is to speculate. The second is to hedge their risk. Most are familiar with the guessing aspect of investing. Each time you buy stock, you are guessing which direction the stock is going to go in. The term investing is used to make buying stock not sound as risky. Truthfully, there is always uncertainty when buying stock. You might be pretty sure that GOOG stock is going to go up when you buy it, but if you were positive that it would increase, you would put everything you owned into it. It is important to realize that there is always a risk involved when investing. When you buy options, you guess on future stock prices, but you limit the downside risk while your upside profit potential is not limited.
Investors can choose to hedge their portfolios. Basically, the investor is purchasing insurance that will protect their investment from potential disaster. It is very similar to buying homeowners insurance. The chance of something bad happening is slim; however, having someone else bear the brunt of the disaster is more appealing than dealing with it yourself. When you hedge your portfolio, you are insuring your investment.
The prices of options are based on the price of an underlying stock.
After you decide whether you want to hedge or speculate with your options, you will also need to decide which certain options fit your needs. When you look up an options chain, you will discover that there many to choose from. Knowing that you want to hedge or speculate is not enough. You also need to decide if your plan calls for trading a put or a call option, how long you want the expiration date to be, along with what strike price you want to trade. This all sounds Greek if you are new to options, but after a while this all becomes second nature.
The pricing of options is figured using a complicated differential equation, but again, we don’t need to make this so complicated.
There are five necessary pieces of evaluating costs of pricing options. They are: Asset volatility, Underlying Asset Price, Time to Expiration, Option strike price and Risk-free rate.
There are many factors that play an important part in every option price, but there are only two features that an investor can control, and they are the time to expiration and the strike price. Traders need to focus on choosing the right strike and expiration for them. There are several strategies that all should consider:
Hedging: a simple strategy to protect the downside of the market is something like a longer expiration and using puts on out of money options.
Speculating: using directional or non-directional option strategies to make huge returns usually quickly while taking on some risk.
A variety of strategies are part of the out or in the money options that every investor should learn. An in the money option is going to cost more money to purchase but, the chance that it will retain value upon expiration is higher. An out of the money option is less expensive but there is a greater risk of it being worth nothing upon expiration.

When your home is on the verge of foreclosure, you certainly will do anything possible to save it. But the problem is how you will do it. One, among many, is going to your lender and asking for help.
For others, contacting the lender at the first sign of financial problems seems to be not such a good idea. It may be because they are embarrassed to discuss money issues to others or they simply don’t see the need to inform their lender right away of their present financial standing, most of the time they are thinking it is a temporary problem.
Most people have the perception that lenders, like banks, think only of themselves and don’t care about the future of the borrowers. This leads to the common notion that lenders show no mercy to homeowners who have defaulted on payments and will take the homes when the very first window of opportunity opens. The truth is lenders like owners will do everything they can to avoid home foreclosures. So again, the best way to save your home is to work with your lender to solve the problem.
Lenders will send a Notice of Default if you miss payments for 3 consecutive months. Call your lender as soon as possible. Inform them why you have defaulted on a payment and ask for an alternative payment schedule or temporary lower rates until your finances have returned to normal. You can also ask for Forbearance which is where your lender waives some of the penalty fees as a result of default or a mortgage refinance without going through the process of re-application, whichever you think is more economical. Mortgage lenders are NOT IN THE REAL ESTATE SELLING BUSINESS, thus are more than willing to help you to avoid repossessing your home.
Talk to your lender, inform them of your situation, and ask for payment alternatives. DO NOT WAIT!!! Act fast. Understand the gravity of the situation and do something about it.
